Dear Friends,
The heart of Thanksgiving is its simplicity: family, friends, and food, brought together in gratitude for all that we’ve been given.
In that spirit, we share our thanks to each of you for reaching out to the wonderful people we serve together with food, housing, medical care, and education. The result of our collective efforts (below), touches lives in ways that bring strength and promise to those living among significant challenges.
We join with them in offering the deepest thanks for all you’ve shared!
Blessings with gratitude for all you do.
Chuck
HATS OFF TO ALEXANDER MUÑOZ
When Alex came to our center three years ago, he couldn’t read or write. He completed our literacy program and qualified to enter the public school system as a 6th Grader.
Alex still stops by for food and occasional tutoring. But three weeks ago, he stopped by to show us his stellar report card. He ranks at the top of his class, and we’re incredibly proud of him…and he is grateful to you for your support.
A FAMILY SENDS THANKS TO YOU
Thanksgiving
In our last update, we asked for help to improve living conditions for Candelaria and her family. Because of you, we met our goal! On behalf of Candelaria and her children, we share in their heartfelt thanks. At the end of next week, materials will be purchased and significant improvements will begin. (We will keep you posted.).
Our sincerest appreciation to our donors who made this possible:
Shirley and Steve Hornyak Anonymous
Dan and Judy Krumm Donald Drane
John Thomas Savage, Jr. Ron Cullember
Michael Mika
CONSTRUCTION HAS BEGUN!
Only days after the conclusion of our capital building campaign, Maycól, our director, began buying materials for the construction of our new center.
For manual labor, he offered jobs to older (ages 17-19) adolescents whom he has been mentoring. They are hard workers and they have a chance to earn an honest income while Maycól has more time to guide them even more. (However, Maycól said, “They make me realize my age, and they’re killing me!”)
Now, they are working along side of the contractors to observe the rhythm and spirit of people who work each day for a living.
Soon, we will invite them into the Matt James Haley Vo-Tech center, when it opens in 2022, to train them in skills of their own.
