Dear Friends,
Because our friends in Nicaragua are experiencing significant challenges now, we’re working hard to reassure them by providing all the support we can offer.
By giving time, attention, and resources to others, we build stronger connections and foster a sense of mutual trust and goodwill. Our goal is to walk with our friends, together, on ground that it higher than the challenges that burden them…listening, giving encouragement , sharing optimism, and keeping economic challenges and fear in perspective.
We can do this because of you. Thank you for empowering us, so we can pass it on to those who allow us all to be our best.
With gratitude,
Chuck
Just Press Print!
Our teachers and administrators send many thanks to all who contributed to the purchase of our beautiful new printer and scanner. We’ve never had anything nearly so efficient to enjoy. It took a few weeks to order and to wait for its arrival, but everyone overwhelmingly agreed, it was well worth the wait.
In late July, when we go to Nicaragua, we’ll bring the four donated laptops to distribute to the teachers and to our director. We look forward to connecting them to to the new printer for even more convenience.
Celebrating Mothers and Children on Días de los Ninos y Madres
Mother’s Day and Children’s Day are one month apart. We combined them for one big celebration. The children prepared a show and made presents for Mom. Afterwards, they had fun with a candy-loaded Elmo piñata that was handmade at the school. Food and fun for all!
Passing it on
Two years ago, it was hard to predict all that would result from saying “yes” to a simple request to support two adult women’s kickball teams. A month ago members of the teams asked if we would purchase a few extra balls, so they could inaugurate some fitness activities for the girls of the barrio. The activities in our barrio continue to be more and more constructive. It’s contagious!
Meet One Of Our Favorite Inspirations: Luciano Rafael Rivas
Luciano was born blind and deaf six years ago. His mother turned to Neighbors to Nicaragua for help. We put out a request and a wonderful donor has sponsored him ever since. Her sponsorship pays for Luciano’s special formula, his clinic and therapy visits, and his medications. He has exceeded everyone’s expectations. Having memorized the layout of his house through touch, he can navigate it safely. Last year he made his first holy communion. He lives in a very caring family with his grandmother (below), his devoted mother, Sonia, and his doting siblings. We look forward to visiting him again in late July. These photos are from last week.
Scenes from our Barrio
It’s the rainy season in Nicaragua. Our youth counselor, Roberto, often has his camera in-hand to catch moments that are indicative of the lives of our friends. Here are a few to share from two days ago after a rain storm.
Our Wish List
We finally convinced our director, Maycól to agree to having a separate cell phone for work and to turn it off at the end of his long days. (Teachers and the school guard will have his personal number in case of emergencies). If you have a phone that you’re thinking of replacing, please consider wiping and donating it. We could use it for our director. Many thanks, as always.
