Dear Friends,

Greetings from Nicaragua!

It’s wonderful to be here again to see all we’ve accomplished together, to spend time with our terrific students and staff, to plan for the future, and to re-experience the great importance of helping one another.

From all whom we serve here: thank you for sharing this mission with so many who are very grateful to you!

Chuck

Meet Gabriel

We have been supporting Gabriel Maximilliano Perez Cuadro with school tuition for seven years, ever since he was in middle school.

He’s a stellar student and a kind young man who amazingly is now in his second year of studying engineering. In his spare time, he has been working as a barber/hair stylist in a shop in town.

He agreed to teach our “Level III” course in barbering (advanced styles) at our Matthew James Haley Vocational Center. At the conclusion, Gabriel will connect at least two of our students with shops that he knows are looking for qualified workers.

Our students look to Gabriel now as an inspiration. Our donors have made this whole positive cycle possible!

Who’s the Teacher Here?

I stopped by Darling’s class and saw the complex multiplication problems on the board. I feigned shock to the students over how difficult it was.
One of the students got up from her seat, and with a little prompting from Darling, proved me wrong! I stand corrected! 🙃

Our Newsletter Wish List Item
for Roberto

Our Youth Activities Coordinator Roberto José Fonseca Hernandez shares his amazing array of talents with us every day. He’s a literacy teacher for older students, a professional newspaper photographer, a soccer coach, and a counselor.

He lives with his wife and two daughters in Granada, and joined our team at the beginning of the year. His presence has been transformative for us. We are indeed fortunate to have his quiet, kind, focused dedication to our mission.

Roberto needs a new camera to continue helping us as effectively as his talents allow. Our former camera is somewhat outdated and limited at this point. If you are able to help us by donating towards it, please click HERE or contact us.
Many many thanks!

Life in Nicaragua: Rosa

Rosa was a student in our literacy program for several years. I remember her staying late after class to mop floors and volunteer as she could.

Seven months ago she had a beautiful baby girl: Kendra Naomi. On Friday, she walked two miles from her home, with Kendra in tow, to ask for help because she had nowhere to turn. Kendra was ill. Rosa had a prescription for a low-cost antibiotic and for vitamins. She was also out of soy milk and diapers.

On his lunch break, Marvin, our English teacher, drove us to two pharmacies and the supermarket to get Rosa and Kendra what she needed. It’s a simple thing, but underlies how times are at the moment. We’re all here because of you to support and give hope. In return, Rosa inspires us with her strength and fortitude.
